INTRODUCTION:-
“You can’t stp the future. You can’t rew▌►►nd the past. The only way to learn the secret……..is to press ply.”(Asher, Cover Page)
Thirteen reasons why” is a young adult novel written in 2007 by Jay Asher. It is the story of young high school student as she descends into despair brought on by betrayal and bullying, culminating with her suicide. Number two: you pass it on”. (Asher, 2016:8)
Thirteen reasons why” has received recognition and awards from several young adult literary associations and the paperback edition reached ♯ 1 on the New York Times best seller list in July 2011. A screen play was written, based on the original release of the book, that become the basis of the dramatic television series thirteen reason why released through Netflix on March 31, 2017. The screenplay contains several deviations from the name changes, plot element and character personalities and there involves so many controversy about the suicide issues on teenager.
Who is Teenager:-
“Teenagers mean a person aged between 13 and 19 years”. (Oxford Mini Dictionary: 157) puberty and adolescence is the name for this transition period from childhood to adulthood. In the United States, kids and teens from the ages from the ages of 14-18 typically go to high school. In the United Kingdom (u k) teenagers and non-teens are mixed in secondary school. Teenagers attending secondary school (high school in the us) generally graduate at the age of 16 or19 sexual attraction to teenagers is called ephebophillia.
“This story, though, was different from any I’d worked on before. For one, it wasn’t a comedy. Two, it was from a teen perspective. Three, it was from male and female teen perspectives.” (Asher: Thirteen Reason Why) In this jay Asher highlight the point about teenager problem in high school and with their parents. It stated by Katherine Langford and Dylan Minnettes talk show debut that,” I play the character Hannah braker who’s 17 years old and she committed suicide and leave tapes why she should be done this and clay who listen tapes and decided why she is done this.” (The Ellen Show)
Analysis of Categorization in Novel:-
“This book is so emotional: you can feel Hannah’s anger, frustration, and sadness as you listen to the tapes. I couldn’t put it down.”(Madison: Asher) clay Jansen is breezing through high school relatively drama-free, may be because his nose is usually buried in his schoolbooks. He upset by the recent death of Hannah baker but for the most part except for Hannah’s empty desk, his life is business as usual. Until, that is he finds Hannah’s package on his porch. so here in this novel we categorization in three which as follows:
a)     Psychological Thriller Novel:-
In this novel, we can recognize Hannah’s dark world as she sees it on the night before her death, when she records the tapes. She takes you on psychological thrill ride that ends with her giving in to her despair. Her story is so compelling so full of bitter twists, that most readers report devouring this book at breakneck speed. We are also driven forward by a need to see if Hannah is justified in blaming these people for her tragic decision. Clay is experiencing this same thing but with a lot more at stake. He needs to find out why he’s on Hannah’s tapes. “It examines the small aggressions we commit that cause unthinkable pain, and the larger ones that become even more painful when we are told we must move on from them”. (Reilly Kaitlin)
b)      Coming Of Age:-
All this can be seen as a coming of age for clay. He has to move out of his comfort zone and grow as a person if he’s going to survive these tapes  make him feel like he need to do the right thing in the world from now on. This means not listening to rumors or caring what others think about who he chooses to hang out with a date .But it also means confronting the not so pretty reality of his teenager world. No pressure, right? Hence the pounding headache he sport throughout his grim listening adventure.
Hannah reveals a dark and threatening world that was right there alongside clay’s peaceful happy one. By the end of these tapes, the two worlds are shows to one, and clay will never be the same . “Wonderfully realistic in his writing, Asher offers teens and parents alike a great story on an important topic.”(Asher: Green Bay Press-Gazette) Basically, it’s learned by this novel that, Even if we don’t have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there.
c)      Tragedy:-
“A spectacular first novel. Jay Asher tells his story with such honesty and simplicity that the tragedy feels shatteringly real.” (Dordon Korman, Auther of Son of the Mob and Jake, Reinvented; Thirteen Reasons Why) We know from the very beginning that this story is a tragedy. Hence, it ends with the death of our protagonist. But we should remember that Hannah’s tragic death isn’t in vain: in the end, it helps clay and another character who is defines in novel become a more sensitive, caring individual. This tragic ending leads to a happy new beginning. One important change in novel after its 10th Anniversary that is, Jay Asher gives a chance to Hannah baker and clay relationship to Hannah’s alive. “When her parents came home, she was unconscious. From the pills. But they took her to a hospital and pumped her stomach and they saved her.” (Asher)
Teenager Problem:-
The life goes through much kind of circumstances, the age decided how we take these in our life there are three main age’s childhood, adolescence and old. Childhood and old has one similarity is that both needs care and wants attention of loved ones but dissimilarity is that old has got its experienced certification but childhood is beginning of this course. All these ages have their importance in life among all there is one age which comes between of childhood and adolescence i.e. teenager.
Actually a person in this age can hardly decide whether he is still a child or he is mature, that is why he thoughts his decisions are right and what he does is right, so, teenager problem’s as follows:-
a)      Suicide:-
Today in the world most of teenager suicide because of depression and end of life hope thirteen reasons why also highlight these kind of situations and problems.  There is some centimes for which we can recognized that one person having intention of suicide roe instance person talk about burden, pain and having no reasons to live, behavior, mood, health factor, environment factors and historical factor etc.
Suicide creeps into every line of 13 reasons why, which center on the audio- tapes suicide note of teenager Hannah baker. We listen along with clay Jansen Hannah traces her high school days, from first kiss to last words. What starts as occasional thoughts of suicide turn to solid plans and as we know from the beginning a fatal overdose of pills. We don’t  see clay long enough after he listens to the tapes to know exactly how they change him but the ending gives us something to go on, he reaches out to skeye miller, a girl portrayed as a possible suicide risk.
b)      Guilt and Blame of Mind:-
Hannah baker isn’t kidding around where this point is concerned. No double about it, the tapes in 13 reasons why are a huge guilt trip- she admits this freely she wants her listeners to feel bad about the way they treats her and to treat people better in the future. But as much as she makes other people feel guilty, she feels responsible for Jessica’s rape, and for the boy who’s killed after jenny runs down a stop sign she doesn’t trust herself to do the right thing anymore than she trusts the people and the tapes. Her guilt over her role in these crimes seems to drive Hannah over the edge.
c)      Rumor:-
Rumor mongering is part of every high school experience. Hannah doesn’t delve into her pre-high school past but she does hint that she had a problem with her reputation in middle school. She considers her new high school in a new town a fresh start. Unfortunately, she becomes a target for rumors almost instantly at her new school and once the rumors start, they just keep growing. This point to a controversial issue in the novel Hannah, a clear victim of rumors, leaves behind even more rumors in her tapes. This is a real problem when we think about characters being accused of serious illegal activity, particularly Bruce, Tyler, Justin and Jenny.
d)     Lack of loyalty with Others:-
“Loyalty”   is noticeably absent from this story characters at least as they’re depicted by clay and Hannah rarely get past each other’s reputations and surface attributes. Tony and clay do develop a sense of loyalty to Hannah after listening to the tapes, but it’s clear that Hannah feels betrayed by everyone around her peers, parents and teachers. But it’s important to remember that Hannah has betrayed herself too. She sex with Bryce, the guy who allegedly raped Jessica and chronically abuses his peers. Today’s teenager think that, betrayal is one kind of wisdom game or fashion but they are not understand what means of that and who its affect another life which does not notice people’s emotions and thought so, this issue raise in this novel.
e)      Lake of Attentions Of Parents:-
Parents one of the most important part of teenager and that’s why must given attention to their children so, one of the most tragic elements of Hannah’s story is how oblivious her parents were to her situation preoccupied with running their store, Hannah’s parent had no idea she was bullied by her peers, spread about their daughter. They also unaware that Hannah had suicide ideation and depression. Their cluelessness persisted until the very end of Hannah’s life.
Hannah’s parent was not only ones oblivious to the lives of their children. Most the parents in the story were either willfully uninvolved in their children’s lives or tried to by their children lives or tried to by their children. In that novel if any parent asked about their activities than, they said that “school project” (Asher: 16)
f)       Abuse  female body:-
In this novel, boys attempt to control and abuse the bodies of Hanna and the other girls. Hannah first mentions this treatment during the incident with Bryce at blue spot liquor when he smacked her butt. Because Alex named her “best ass in the freshman class” Asher: 48) Bryce felt entitled to touch and control Hannah’s body when Hannah rejected him, Bryce forcibly, “I’m only playing, Hannah” (Asher: 80) To Hannah, this demonstrated that Bryce saw her as his play toy an object for his amusement. Other incidences are Jessica rape and Hannah encounter in hot tub. Bryce, Zach, Alex, Tyler and Marcus all tried to subjugate control and manipulate Hannah and her body in various ways thought the novel. So, today teenagers especially boys should know about to respect woman.
g)      Frustration And Inhumanity of teenagers:-
Everything in this novel has inhumanity and painful edge to it, Hannah’s tone on the tapes could even be described as violent- she is trying to inflict pain on her listeners. Her tapes reveal that her world is a dangerous place. Many of the critical events she describes focus on extreme incidents of violence, including a possible rape and death of a high school boy. But thirteen reasons why addresses another kind of violence often forgotten in young adult literature: violence against oneself. Hannah’s inability to deal with the cruel world around her leads to the ultimate act of violence when she taken her own life.
h)      Choices and Decisions:-
Choices and decisions is one of the importance problems in teenager life. The choices that the people on Hannah’s choices are pretty impotent, too. Even when they’re good choices like singing up for a poetry class, they always seem to turn out badly. But as her state of mind deteriorates toward the end of the novel, Hannah starts making choices that she knows aren’t good for her. Part of the reasons she kills herself might even be that she’s unable to live with some of choices she makes in the final weeks of her life. Brian yorkey, creator, executive producer said that, “People done certain think which affected their life” (Jessica Shaw: Netflix)
     g) Friendship and Bad Company:-
Friendship is more importance in teenager life. It’s give encouragement, enjoyment and try new things so friendship important, it’s true. But whom as we get example of Hannah life that we realized that, she always try somebody but she always try to be friend, someone and trust somebody but she could not get it. Like Jessica Davis, Counrtney Crismen and Jenny Kurtz one by one proof that they are not trustworthy and that’s why she fill loneliness or alone in the school or world so she is depressed and no hope for life. So choices of friends and who to be friend both is impotents point in life. it’s one of the important word of teenager.
i)        Education system and Responsibilities:-
Education is the basic need of the children. Education helps to meaning and understands about life. In thirteen reasons why, the thirteenth to receive the tapes was Mr. Porter, the temporary school counselor. Hannah secretly recorded a conversation they had, in which she expressed a desired to end her life overwhelmed that if she was unwilling to press charges against the boy she should just try to move on so, this novel learned to reader that, education system is part of our life. Teachers must understand and solve problems of the students. Teachers must give right advice or suggestion to the student which helps to build their life. They should discussion with students about their work and problem and try to solve it.
